- Photographer Jim Richardson is quoted as saying, "If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of more interesting stuff." To me there is no more interesting stuff than people.

- I believe photographing people who are filled with an abundance of character and passion gives me insight to the world around me, and I always feel like I have been given a special gift.

- The Roller Derby Girl project is one of several ongoing personal projects where I seek to put interesting people in front of the camera. Roller Derby is a sport that most of us probably assume is from the 1940's, yet the sport has made a come-back, and, according to a recent Wall Street Journal article, there are close to 1250 amateur leagues worldwide.

- I have had the pleasure of working with a special group of women who are not only passionate about the sport, but also have developed a mutual trust and friendship.

- They answer to names such as BuckingSlam Malice, Blonde Fury, Zsa Zsa Doom, KK-47 and Mary Lou Wreck'em.

- But, on the inside, they are caring mothers, sisters and daughters, who donate their time to raising money for their favorite charity.

- On the outside they dress tough and wear face war paint that you would not want to see in a darkened alley.
